If You Absorb Everyone Else’s Energy, More Protection May Not Be the Answer

If you have ever walked into a room feeling perfectly fine and walked out anxious, irritated, exhausted, or strangely emotional, the usual spiritual advice is pretty predictable: protect your energy. Shield yourself. Close your aura. Put up a mirror. Stop letting everyone else in.
But during the first Unity Code Live experiment, I wanted to test what actually happens when we do that. And what happened made me wonder whether energetic protection and energetic sovereignty are two very different things.
We started by shutting everything down
The experiment began with participants simply noticing their normal energetic state. Their experiences were wildly different. Some perceived their energy close to the body, others much farther away. Some experienced it as relatively solid, while others described openings, filters, movement, textures, or colors.
Then we changed the conditions. Everyone was guided to imagine their energetic field as completely solid, with no openings at all. Nothing could enter. The intention was total energetic protection.
The responses were fascinating. One person described the result as incredibly calm and grounding. Another felt claustrophobic and wanted more space. Someone else described the incoming information as essentially “crickets.” The point was not that one response was correct. It was that changing the imagined boundary seemed to change what participants experienced.
And that gave us something more interesting to test.
What if the goal isn’t to block everything?
Instead of keeping the field completely closed, we changed the intention. Participants were invited to experiment with allowing in only energy or information they experienced as aligned, supportive, useful, or for their highest good.
That distinction seems small, but experientially it was very different.
People began reporting feeling lighter, more open and more connected. Some described loving presences or departed loved ones. Others experienced physical sensations, emotional warmth or a sense of support. Instead of describing the energetic silence of the fully closed experiment, participants were receiving again, but they were not describing the same sense of indiscriminate energetic input.
Obviously, a live spiritual experiment does not establish a universal law about how human energy works. That isn’t the point. The interesting question is what changes when you stop thinking about energetic boundaries as a choice between “wide open” and “completely shut down.”
Protection and discernment are not the same thing
This may be the much bigger revelation.
When you believe energetic safety requires keeping everything out, you are responsible for maintaining the wall. You have to remember the shield, reinforce the protection and constantly assess what might be trying to get through.
Discernment creates a different relationship with your energy. The question becomes less, “How do I protect myself from everything around me?” and more, “What am I available for?”
That is a profound shift in agency. You are no longer treating yourself as a passive energetic sponge trying to survive everyone else’s moods, emotions and experiences. You begin learning your own baseline well enough that you can notice when something changes it.
First, learn what you feel like
That may actually be the most practical part of the entire experiment.
Before you can determine whether you are absorbing someone else’s emotional or energetic state, you need some sense of what your own state feels like without everyone else mixed into it. Calm may feel like spaciousness for one person and solidity for another. Your baseline does not have to look like anyone else’s.
So experiment with it. Notice yourself before you enter a crowded store, family gathering, office, event or other environment that tends to affect you. Notice yourself again while you are there. Play with changing your imagined energetic boundary and observe whether your experience changes with it.
You do not have to accept anyone else’s explanation for what happens. The entire point of The Unity Code is to become curious enough to test what is possible, pay attention to your own experience, and decide what the results mean to you.
Because maybe the goal was never to become better at hiding from everyone else’s energy. Maybe the goal is to become so familiar with your own that you finally know what deserves access.
